Freelancer Sites for Self-Publishing

It might sound self explanatory, but when you self-publish, you’re left to do everything yourself. This includes things like covers, editing, formatting, promoting, the works. But, the truth is that most self-published authors don’t actually do all of these things themselves.

And, they shouldn’t.

Editing is definitely one of the things that no one should do themselves. Always hire an editor.

But, editors, and any professional, can be expensive when working with a company, which is why hiring freelancers is a huge help.

Here are some of my all time favorite sites for hiring freelancers for self-publishing.

Upwork

Upwork is great for finding freelancers. You can post an add, list your price, and freelancers come to you. You also have the safety of not having to pay your freelancer outside of the site.

They do all of the identity checking for you.

Reedsy

Reedsy is unique in the fact that it is strictly for self-publishing freelancers. Every freelancer on Reedsy is a professional in the publishing world. The requirement for being one of their listed freelancers is having worked for a publishing house.

Again, like Upwork, you post your ad, but with Reedsy, you submit to specific freelancers of your choice, which means you can choose a freelancer who works in your genre.

Reedsy freelancer rates run significantly higher than that of Upwork, but as someone who has worked on Upwork as a freelancer, I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

A good professional is worth the money. I was even able to find an editor who is close enough for me to meet with in person.

Fiverr

Fiverr is another freelance site that hosts thousands of freelancers. It works the opposite way of Upwork in that the freelancers post their price and you go looking.

I’ve personally never used Fiverr before, but I know a couple authors who swear by it.

Freelancer

Freelancer is another site that I’ve heard a lot about but never used. You can search for freelancers in just about any category. You simply post the job, select the freelancer, and pay them when you’re satisfied.

Guru

Guru works just like Freelancer and Upwork.

This is a good starter list with the most popular sites for self-publishing freelancers.

Good luck with your self-publishing adventure!

xoxo,

Ellie,
